PARTNER SCHOOLS: MORRISTON, BISHOP GORE, CEFN HENGOED, LLANGATWG, GLAN AFAN, ST. JOSEPH'S R.C.,
MILFORD HAVEN, SIR THOMAS PICTON. QUEEN ELIZABETH,
An exciting arts project has been taking place in 9 Welsh Secondary Schools over the past couple of months. Pupils from the schools have been working with artists to design, construct and install a piece of sculpture in their grounds. The nine Secondary Schools are Morriston, Bishop Gore and Cefn Hengoed in Swansea, Llangatwg, Glan Afan and St. Josephs in Neath Port Talbot, Queen Elizabeth in Carmarthen, Milford Haven and Sir Thomas Picton in Pembroke. The nine sculptures link the schools in an interesting and cultural way. During the project, pupils have learnt about every aspect of making a piece of sculpture, contributing to their creative and problem solving skills. Artists working on the project are Dave Marchant, Ami Marsden, Laila Williams, Clare Ferguson-Walker, Tina-Marie Cunningham, Viv Rhule and Sara Holden. Managing Artist Swansea Sara Holden described the project: The sculptures are meaningful, interesting and demonstrate each school's appreciation and knowledge of culture and the arts. The pupils have been involved at every level from design and planning decisions through to making the sculptures and are thoroughly enjoying the experience of working with artists. The young people have shown they have great creative skills and the ability to make art works that will be enjoyed by the schools and the wider community, which will be source of pride to all!' The project is funded by the Arts Council of Wales, through the National Lottery and Welsh Government, Neath Port Talbot Borough Council, Carillion Construction, Bluestone Resorts, South Hook LNG, Milford Haven Port Authorities and the schools themselves. The following feature about the project shows the sculptures in their school settings. Scroll down to reveal full feature.
