The 20th annual Beach Sculpture Festival moved along the coast to Port Eynon for the third beach stop on our tour. On the most southerly point of the Gower AONB, Port Eynon bay is set amongst beautiful landscape and a seaside village with shops and cafes. Port Eynon Beach has a large golden sandy beach and many different coloured pebbles and rocks for use in making sculptures. As well as the local community, there are also lots of holiday visitors here in the summer making good use of the sea view caravan parks and holiday homes. All were very excited to take part in our special environmental art festival which is always extremely well attended at Port Eynon. Intermittant rain showers during the day did not deter the many people arriving to take part in creating some beautiful marine inspired sculptures.

'We were very happy with our sculpture. The festival got us thinking about materials, textures and colours as well as about endangered species'.

Sea horse magic! Inspired by the rare (but sighted on Gower) Long Snouted Sea Horse.

'The artists were very helpful and supportive encouraging us to use different materials -e.g. pebbles and seaweed. We learnt about the many sea creatures in our seas and the event helped children consider the environment, arts and creativity. Thanks very much for the experience!'

There were a lot of large groups attending the festival, often intergenerational who were enthused to start making, share their ideas and be wowed by their creative journey. Participants were happy to have created summer memories with their families.

'It was a lovely day, especially learning how to use beach materials like sand and pebble in a new way! We learnt a lot through the activity about marine animals and the beach environment. Events like this are very worthwhile - some children never get this type of opportunity usually'.

A beautiful Orca or Killer Whale was created by this enthusiastic youngster!

The delicious looking toffee coloured pebbles and rocks at Port Eynon were used to good effect to create a lovely brown crab!

'The Festival was great for ideas'

'The festival was great to develop our team work skills and gave us a marine appreciation. It was fun for all the family and it was free!'

'We found out about the beach environment and identifying sea life through the workshops. The festival encouraged and inspired both young and old minds!'

Thank you to everyone for making our annual sculpture festival such a success once again

'We loved making the sea horse and creating all the different textures for a great result. it was great to be outside screen-free and being creative! We learnt about endangered marine species through the festival. Very informed artists'.

'Great idea, lots of fun'

'Great Festival! Keep up the good work!'

It was a lovely, busy, creative fulfilling day!

'The festival was great fun! Thank you!'

Everyone stayed along time to create their work with the artists and were in many cases inspired to continue their own sculptures afterwards.

'The artists explained each step of making the sculpture and helped the children make it. Thank you for your time and effort in making a rainy day so good!'

'It was a great way to bring the community together with a social enterprise that was good for well being and creativity. We loved it!'

An environmental awareness about the beach and its marine life was achieved through conversations with the artists. The beach was full of beautiful sculptures like a wonderful open-air gallery. People walking along the shore marvelled at the creations. The artists packed away the flags and displays ready for the next day of the Beach Sculpture festival tour to Bracelet Bay in Mumbles.
