We began our 20th annual beach sculpture festival at the golden sandy Caswell beach on the Gower AONB. A Blue Flag beach, Caswell Bay or Bae Cas-wellt is a large beach popular with families, holiday makers and surfers. Festival displays and flags were gaily placed on the sandy shore early on the first day of this year's Beach Sculpture Festival. An uncertain weather forecast did not deter the many festival goers beginning to arrive at the beach ready to make some amazing beach sculptures with the artists. The beach was soon buzzing with lots of eager young artists wanting to create their favourite marine animals. Caswell beach is a great place to spot local sealife such as seals, starfish, harbour porposies /dolphins and rock pool creatures so there was plenty of marine life to inspire the beach sculptures.

We loved making these seahorses. Our creativity was enhanced through the workshop with the variety of designs the artists helped us with and the use of natural materials.

Many people came prepared for the possible wet weather, they were determined to attend many emphasizing that being on the beach makes them feel good, and their children too. All participants where happy with their art outcomes and took photos with their families in.

'So inspiring'

We made a jellyfish. The artists were absolutely lovely and they talked about endangered species and helped us choose a creature to make. It was loads of fun, educational and a great atmosphere. So glad we stumbled upon it! Thanks so much!

Participants shared their knowledge and asked questions with regards to the marine /shore life. They spoke about being involved with beach cleans and being mindful not to take stones home from the beach.

We made a squid and a starfish which was fantastic! Our creativity was enhanced definitely at the festival and the children now know how to make art at the beach!

Lovely workshop - the kids loved it and will definitely do this again at the next beach trip!

I loved the workshop - I made a seal and a starfish!

The festival was great for kids to get outdoors and work with natural materials!

A fantastic use of our natural play materials!!!

The artists gave us lots of ideas for creativity and how to appreciate nature!

A green turtle was great fun to make for these two youngsters.

Very friendly, open workshop for all to enjoy with helpful artists! An engaging activity and relaxed fun time which was enjoyed by all the family!

The artists were friendly, engaging and informative! We discussed marine life and keeping the beach clean while we worked on the sculptures. It was a lovely activity for the children and adults alike! Accessible art - the kids loved it! Thank you!

All participants spoke positively about creating art works outside, they enjoyed foraging and helping their children create sculptures.

Despite some interchangeable weather, this did not put off the participants who showed how determined they were to attend by coming prepared. Children enjoyed learning about sea life while making their sculptures.

A cheeky seal pops its head up through the sand much to the delight of these two brothers!

The festival was a wonderful way to relax and connect with nature! A great idea!

We made an octopus and the workshop was an excellent use of observation to improve our creativity. We found out lots of environmental aspects while at the festival too!

Environmental art events like this are 100% worthwhile, it's great to be outdoors and the children really enjoyed being creative!

Thank you so much - my grandchildren thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Will definitely come again!

Nice engagement to get creative with different materials. We found out about different marine life and the event combined creativity with being outdoors - and it's free!

These youngsters spent hours working on this splendid octopuss, collecting and carefully placing the pink pebbles to create a wonderful effect that they were very proud of!

Environmental Art events are worthwhile as they promote and value the environment, engaging with our senses, encouraging a sense of self pride, achievment and building community. The artists were friendly and approachable.

It was good to see so many people attending the festival which made for a great atmosphere!

We made a whale and amonite which we were very happy with. The children were very excited with their work. The artists had lots of ideas and helped them achieve their visions. Great idea for something creative at the beach!

The first day of the festival was a resounding success and the artists folded away the flags and banners ready to take to Oxwich Bay the next day.
